Green: A Good Career Move
August 18, 2008

Add one more reason why knowledge and practice of green supply chain management is desirable: It’s good for your career.

That’s a clear conclusion from Korn/Ferry International’s new report on “The 21st Century Supply Chain Executive: Global and Green.”  Korn/Ferry is one of the world’s biggest executive search firm so when they say something about the needed capabilities of the executive of the future, it’s probably prudent to listen.

After relating the drivers that are pushing companies to adopt green these days—drivers that most of us are already starting to see in our own work spaces—Korn/Ferry outlines five key steps that companies can take to develop those capabilities to become more green and sustainable going forward. First off, you need supply chain professionals in the organization who understand the important of going green in the first place.  These individuals must be willing to step forward and play a lead role in development of corporate citizenship and sustainability efforts.

Excellent communication capabilities are critical, too, in promoting a green agenda in the supply chain.  The biggest challenge is to make the suppliers see the value in working with your company to create a greener, more sustainable supply chain.

There are many other good tips and insights as well.  So if you’re looking for a realistic (non-preachy) explanation of why green makes sense for supply chain and supply chain professionals, read the complete Korn/Ferry report at http://www.kornferry.com/Publication/9388.
