It can be easy for supply chain professionals to be distracted by the latest developments in technology, which in recent years have included blockchain and now generative AI. Before it can reap the benefits of any technology, an organization must ensure it has processes in place to maintain data cleanliness, consistency, and governance. APQC classifies organizations that have established these practices as having high information maturity. Advantages that these organizations have over others include the ability to determine product locations throughout the supply chain.
Evaluating Data
Organizations with high information maturity regularly re-evaluate key data for accuracy. This ensures that the data sources support the most accurate business decisions possible. Nearly twice as many organizations with high information maturity evaluate their data sources to a very great or significant extent compared with organizations with low information maturity.
Tracking Products
As part of their information maturity, many organizations implement tracking capabilities so they can locate a product no matter where it is. More than twice as many organizations with high information maturity always know where products are, compared with organizations with low information maturity.
Business Benefits
Organizations with high information maturity regularly re-evaluate their data sources and quality, which in turn enables them to make better informed business decisions. These organizations also know the locations of their products at all times. High information maturity can lead to a positive impact on the confidence that customers have in an organization, as well as their loyalty.
