Global third-party logistics (3PL) services provider CEVA Logistics recently opened up its Center of Logistics Excellence in the Asia Pacific, located in Changi, Singapore.

In February, the company opened up its first Center of Logistics Excellence in Jacksonville, Fla.

CEVA described the Asia Pacific Center for Logistics Excellence as a facility focused on demonstrating real world logistics innovation through supply chain optimization and enhanced visibility, integrated services and technology solutions to power supply chain efficiency. The company also added that Singapore is a key logistics hub on a global level because of its strategic location and conducive environment for several companies to operate out of, with excellent connectivity that provides smooth access within Asia and other regions, too.

A company spokesman told LM that Asia Pacific is a significant region for CEVA, coupled with the fact that CEVA has the supply chain capabilities to serve the unique challenges and demands of customers in Asia. And he added that having a Center in this region as a knowledge hub and to showcase CEVA’s capabilities is a strong testament of its commitment to Asia and customers with business and operations in the region.

What’s more, CEVA noted that Asia’s consumers will make up more than half of the world’s middle class by 2020 (according to Development Bank of Singapore report), which it said is a significant growth trend that shows increasing urbanization, rising disposal income, with the increased consumption power across Asian countries.

“CEVA as a company recognizes the importance of Singapore as a regional knowledge hub for logistics innovation and excellence,” he said. “Many of our customers also operate their regional offices out of Singapore, making it the ideal location to demonstrate excellence to international and world leading organizations. Our Centers of Excellence, both in Jacksonville and Singapore, bring to life our integrated supply chain capabilities and demonstrate ‘real world logistics’ to our customers, which is the biggest benefit for our customers. The Centers of Logistics Excellence provide our employees—experts in developing and operating global integrated supply chains on our customers’ behalf—the opportunity to innovate and respond to customer needs real time. They are a repository of existing best practices and an incubator for new ones, which makes for an exciting career opportunity.”

In terms of the differences between the U.S.-based Center for Logistics Excellence and the one in Singapore, CEVA said the concepts for the Centers is the same, being to serve as a knowledge hub for logistics innovation. One difference is that the Centers recognize the unique differences of supply chain needs and challenges of CEVA’s customers in different regions, with solutions showcased at the two Centers designed to address that and tailored to highlight the unique offerings it has for customers in specific regions.

CEVA’s APAC Center for Logistics Excellence is comprised of nearly 200 employees in the regional headquarters in Singapore, out of which around 50 of them with solution design capability, technology know-how and operational expertise are supporting the work at Center of Excellence in Singapore, the spokesman said.

Other examples of the benefits the APAC Center of Logistics Excellence will provide for shippers cited by CEVA include:
-Integrated supply chain capabilities - A showcase of the depth and breadth of CEVA’s integrated supply chain capabilities with case studies of integrated solutions for customers across multiple industries;
-Innovation and Operations Excellence ecosystem – A look at how technology is deployed in warehouse and transport management to power customers’ supply chain more effectively; and using Operations Excellence as a unique differentiator to give customers a competitive advantage; and
-Control Tower – a complete end-to-end supply chain management hub with accurate, punctual and reliable centralized systems managing and controlling transport and security logistics activities for greater visibility and real-time information, worldwide, 24/7
